BBGM Director Alfred Gooden discusses how “alternative workplace strategies” impact real estate choices and the company’s bottom line at the Industrial Asset Management Council (IAMC) Conference.
According to Gooden, Facilities Managers need to carefully consider more than just reducing square footage when making workplace decisions because “One-Size-DOES-NOT-Fit All”. The assumption that instant creativity “flows” when employees spontaneously collaborate might be true, but noise concerns and the ability to have quiet, focused work areas are key in the workplace design as well. The Workspace has to function for the task of the occupant; these are not just square footage decisions but people decisions. But it’s not just physical space. Giving employees the proper tools and training, plus providing ongoing communication are all critical components of a successful telework program.
