BBGM provided architecture and interior design for this new build Residence Inn hotel in Arlington, Virginia. The hotel has eleven stories with a total of 215,000 SF, which includes 183 extended stay guestrooms, meeting rooms, restaurant, pool and fitness center.
BBGM created a contemporary design for the hotel that responds to surrounding buildings. The main mass of the building sits back from the property line approximately fifteen feet. It has a precast concrete base up to the second floor acting as a base for the street level activities and then has areas of metal panels and brick blocking out volumes of guestrooms up to the eleventh floor. The massing of the building steps down to the more residential scale of buildings to the south and rises to the high-rise commercial scale of buildings to the north. To the south, the stepping down of the building culminates in the volume of the indoor swimming pool which anchors the volumes to the south end.
