AIA DC awards the renovation of the W Hotel in Washington, DC and the Workhouse Arts Center projects with Merit Awards in the Historic Resources category. All of the year’s award winners were honored at a ceremony on September 22nd.
The Lorton Workhouse Arts Center currently consists of six (6) artist studio buildings, the main galleries, and the W-3 Theatre. They support more than 100 professional and emerging artists by providing affordable studios and galleries to exhibit work. In addition to visual arts, the Workhouse Arts Center is home to performing arts, including theater; musical theater; film; music; and dance performances. The Workhouse also offers over 800 arts education classes and workshops in a broad spectrum of art disciplines.

BBGM was the Architect for the gut renovation and conversion of the entire historic Hotel Washington into the first local W property. The renovation included almost a complete demolition of the building interiors and building systems while maintaining the original exterior facade details.
